Analysis
298 Crypto Firms Are Licensed in South Africa. Luno and VALR Are on the List; Binance Is Not, by Name
The FSCA's list of licensed crypto asset service providers: who is on it, what they may do, and which global names are missing.
The short version: 298 crypto asset service providers are on the FSCA's list of licensed CASPs (March 2026), including Luno, VALR, Altcoin Trader, Ovex, Yellow Card, FNB (FSCA). No entry on the list carries the name Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, Crypto.com.
What the Licence Covers
The FSCA licenses CASPs as financial services providers under the FAIS Act for advice, intermediary services and investment management relating to crypto assets. It stresses that this is not recognition of crypto assets as legal tender, and that the South African Reserve Bank does not currently recognise crypto assets as currency (FSCA). 152 licensed CASPs may give advice and intermediary services, 116 also or only investment management, 14 intermediary services only and 12 advice only.

Missing Names
A name missing from the list is not a finding about how, or whether, a company serves South African users: a group can operate through a differently named local company. We only report what the list shows.
Removed, Lapsed and Withdrawn
The list also shows 8 CASPs whose crypto product categories were removed after approval, 3 licences that lapsed and 1 provisionally withdrawn. Full list.
