Methodology · Japan
How the Japan tracker is built. Data is official and read from the FSA on every build.
Sources
- FSA register of crypto-asset exchange service providers (read from the Excel version; 27 companies as of 30 Sep 2026): registration number, date, legal name, corporate number, address and crypto-assets handled.
- FSA lists of unregistered operators that received a warning (overseas and domestic).
- The FSA crypto-asset page: dated releases. Each administrative-action release is read for the corporate number and, where stated, the type of order.
- The 2026 Act: FSA Diet page, Act text, FSA release of 29 July 2026.
Source Hierarchy
- official FSA.
- company none used.
- press · secondary none used.
Names
The FSA publishes Japanese names. We show a Latin-script name: the Latin part of the legal name where there is one (for example bitFlyer, Coinbase), otherwise our transliteration (for example Coincheck for コインチェック). The legal name is always shown. Former names are linked to a registrant only when the FSA's release prints the same corporate number.
Labels
- FSA registered: on the register.
- FSA warning (unregistered): on the FSA's list of unregistered operators that received a warning. Only operators we track get a page; all entries are on the enforcement page.
- FSA action, not registered: DMM Bitcoin, which received an administrative action and is no longer on the register.
- Not on FSA register: a major firm with no registrant of that name. If one appears, the build stops for review.
- Crypto-assets: the count of assets listed for the registrant.
Limits
- Registrants that left the register, and their dates, are not reconstructed.
- Electronic payment instruments (stablecoin) service providers and FIEA-registered firms are not covered yet.
- Order types are shown only where the release text names them.
