Methodology · European Union (MiCA)
How the EU tracker is built. All register data is official (ESMA); company statements are labelled.
Sources
- ESMA interim MiCA register, CASPS.csv: every row, downloaded on each build (21 Oct 2026: 379 rows, 376 legal entities).
- NCASP.csv (non-compliant entities), EMTWP.csv (e-money token issuers), ARTZZ.csv (asset-referenced tokens).
- ESMA list of grandfathering periods (Art. 143(3)); end dates per state from national authorities or calculated from the notified months (marked on each state page).
- ESMA statements of 17 April 2026 and 23 June 2026; Regulation (EU) 2023/1114.
- Company statements only for major firms absent from the register, from the company's own site.
Source Hierarchy
- official ESMA, national authorities, EUR-Lex.
- company the firm's own release or support page.
- press · secondary only when nothing better exists (none used in the EU hub so far).
Labels
- MiCA authorised (Art. 63), Notified (Art. 60): as stated in the legal-basis column.
- In MiCA register (basis not stated): the column is empty for that row.
- Withdrawn: every row of the entity has a withdrawal date.
- Named non-compliant: in NCASP.csv under the same name (exact match only; look-alike names are not matched).
- Not in ESMA register: major exchanges we track with no matching row.
- Type: for major brands, VASP Tracker's classification. For other firms it is derived from the services in the file: trading platform (b); exchange/brokerage (c, d or e); custody/transfer only (a, j); advice/portfolio management (h, i); financial institution for Article 60 notifications.
- Passporting: number of EEA states in the service-country column, plus the home state.
Limits
- The interim register lags national registers; a firm can be authorised nationally before ESMA lists it.
- Some dates in the file lack a year (for example “06-May”); we show them as published and leave them out of the charts (11 entries).
- Local-language versions are not published yet: we publish them only where we can write full, reviewed content, not machine translations.
