Methodology · Switzerland
How the Switzerland tracker is built. Data is official and read on every build. The scope is deliberately narrow.
Scope
FINMA has no crypto category for banks or securities firms. Its lists of banks and securities firms do not say which institutions offer crypto services, so none of them is classified here, and we do not infer it. Firms that are only subject to anti-money-laundering rules through a self-regulatory organisation are not on FINMA's licence lists and are not covered. The tracker shows only firms on FINMA lists that are published as such: FinTech licence holders (Art. 1b Banking Act), representations of foreign FinTech licence holders, and licensed DLT trading facilities. Being on the FinTech list does not mean a firm offers crypto services.
Sources
- FINMA, authorised institutions, persons and products: the FinTech licence list, the foreign representations list and the “Authorised DLT trading facilities” section of the financial market infrastructures list (English spreadsheets). FINMA's own total line is checked against the rows.
- FINMA Guidance: every guidance whose FINMA title names crypto, stablecoins, staking, blockchain or coin offerings.
- FINMA press release of 18 March 2025 on the first DLT trading facility, and the federal commercial register (Zefix) for the facility's former name.
- SIF, DLT / blockchain / tokenisation, the Federal Council release of 22 October 2025 and the SIF fact sheet for law dates and the consultation.
Source Hierarchy
- official FINMA, SIF / Federal Council, federal commercial register.
- company none used.
- press · secondary none used.
Limits
- FINMA's lists give names and cities only, with no licence dates.
- FINMA also publishes a stand-alone spreadsheet of DLT trading facilities that its list page no longer links (its PDF version is dated 16 May 2025, under the old name). We use the linked list.
- FINMA's warning list is not crypto-specific and is not used.
- The federal news portal (admin.ch) refuses automated clients; the same Federal Council release is read from SIF's site.
