Frequently asked questions

Short answers, citing the rule. Not legal advice.

Is my exchange going to stop working in Brazil?

It depends on whether it applied in time. Providers that filed by 30 Oct 2026 may keep operating until their process ends, without taking on another modality (Res. 520, art. 88, §6). Providers that did not file must stop within 30 days after the deadline (§7) — by our count, by 29 Nov 2026. Check each platform in the table and the company's own notices.

If a company is not in BCB data, is it operating illegally?

Not necessarily. The dataset is monthly (latest reference date 30/09/2026), lists only open processes and identifies companies by CNPJ root. A company may have filed after the reference date, use another entity, or be a bank or broker that follows a notification route. Absence from the data is not evidence of wrongdoing.

Does being in a process mean the company is authorised?

No. It means an application is under review. As of this update, no SPSAV was listed as authorised in BCB's list of institutions in operation.

What changes on 6 November 2026?

Banks, payment institutions and other BCB-authorised institutions may no longer carry out or enable operations with unauthorised virtual-asset providers, except as the rule allows (Res. 589). In practice this affects the accounts, Pix and settlement such providers rely on. How the rule applies to providers with a pending application is a matter of interpretation; read the rule or ask a lawyer.

Do banks and securities brokers need to apply too?

BCB-authorised institutions already active in virtual assets on 2 Feb 2026 file a formal notification within 270 days, with an independent technical certification (Res. 520, art. 22). These notifications do not appear in the process dataset we track.

What about foreign exchanges?

A foreign entity already serving Brazil that wants to continue must transfer its operations and clients, within 270 days, to an authorised institution or to an SPSAV set up in Brazil (Res. 520, art. 23).

What happens to my crypto if a platform leaves Brazil?

Each company sets its own withdrawal, sale or migration deadlines. Examples recorded in the table: NovaDAX (withdrawals until 30 Oct), Bity (migration and conversion on 27 Nov), Lemon (accounts closed on 16 Oct). Follow the platform's official notices; we do not give individual advice.

Where does the data come from and how often is it updated?

From BCB's public authorisation-process dataset (monthly) and a per-process status query (daily), plus public statements with links. The dataset currently lists 7 open SPSAV processes. See the methodology.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. VASP Tracker organises public data and cites the source of each item. For decisions, read the rule and consult a professional.
