Methodology · Hong Kong
How the Hong Kong tracker is built. All data is official and parsed from the regulators' pages on every build.
Sources
- SFC, Lists of virtual asset trading platforms: four lists (licensed, applicants, removed applications, closing down), read 21 Oct 2026. If a read fails, the last good copy is used and its date is shown.
- HKMA Register of Licensees under the Stablecoins Ordinance (Cap. 656), read 21 Oct 2026.
- SFC alert list, category “Suspicious virtual asset trading platforms”, read 21 Oct 2026.
- SFC and HKMA circulars, statements and press releases for dates and quotes: 23EC27, end of non-contravention period, HKMA licences, HKMA Insight, dealers and custodians.
Source Hierarchy
- official SFC, HKMA.
- company none used in the Hong Kong hub so far.
- press · secondary none used.
Labels
- SFC licensed: on the SFC's list of licensed platforms.
- HKMA stablecoin licence: on the HKMA register of licensed stablecoin issuers.
- Deemed licensed (not formal): on the applicant list and marked as deemed to be licensed under Schedule 3G to the AMLO.
- Applicant: on the applicant list, not deemed.
- Must close down: on the SFC's closing-down list.
- Application withdrawn/returned: only on the list of removed applications.
- SFC alert list: a brand whose exact name appears in the suspicious-platform category, and on no SFC list. We only create firm pages where the listed name is itself the brand (MEXC, JPEX); the full category is on the alerts page.
- On no list: major firms we track that appear on none of the above. This is checked on every build; if one appears, the build stops for review.
- Rows are grouped by the legal name the SFC lists, and named after the platform name the SFC gives.
Limits
- Other licences (for example for dealing in securities, or money service operators) are not covered.
- The SFC does not publish reasons for withdrawals; we do not infer them.
